Over many years, the Pittsburgh Penguins have played at the Melon Arena, which was a smaller arena that held up to 18,000 people. The Melon Arena was completed in 1961 at a cost of $22 million. Due to the small size, the Pittsburgh Penguins could not get their maximum profit potential due to the lack of seating. This past year, the Penguins have been able to play at their new arena, the CONSOLE Energy Center. It holds hockey games, family events and concerts which makes use of this new complex all year round.  The CONSOL Energy Center is the first NHL arena to achieve LEED Gold certification, through conservation of materials, sustainability and environmental quality. With this new arena, more people will watch concerts and the organization in control of the arena will make a greater profit and will be able to help with new aspects in the concerts, events and the hockey team itself.
When a new arena is built, it isnt the fact that more people can sit during a sport or entertainment, its the fact that it is NEW that will attract people. Attention spans these days are very short when it comes to people and entertainment, so by the Pittsburgh Penguins having a new hockey arena will attract new customers/supporters that will help make the team generate more money to get better players and equipment.
